A LITTLE MERMAID
Not THE little mermaid, just one that could be related. This is a marker, inks, and colored pencils rendition of the Mermaid drawing I posted a monthish ago. I wanted to finish it up to trade with a friend. He gave me this incrediable pastel landscape painting and I feel like this is so unworthy but he requested it. I hope it goes over okay. I took the original rough sketch (in red) and inked over it then added the marker and pencil highlights. I'm not sure it works because the rough pencils still show through. There is this grey area between a good rough drawing and a tight, finished drawing. If you get too close to the middle it just looks bad. I'm still not sure where this one sits but it's done.

Wow Tom, so much life in this drawing. I'd love to see your rendition of Jessica Rabbit!
Hoggan, I guess your question deserves an answer. Right now, I'd have to say I'm not interested in going back to Disney. Not sure I ever will be interested. I will watch what happens closely and root for them to do it right this time, but I don't feel like I need to be a part of it. I've done that and I'm excited about where we are right now with our company. Glad you liked the book!
very nice, Tom.
I've been doing fulltime freelance illustration since I left Disney in 2001.
from time to time I miss the Animation Studio, but I have to agree with you about feeling satisfied about your own business. I don't think I would go back either, even though I was only a lowly clean up dude.
I'm very interested in character design, and I'm gonna get your book.

Nice job, Tom!
LOL! I guess I could've mentioned that I work for Disney. Have since '98. I do have to say that there's been some really low times. Fortunately of late, people are excited about the Pixar acquisition and spirits are high. It's just one of those things were time will tell. C'mon Tom, Come back to us!!! The "evil ones" are gone.

Hey, Tom , if you have any of those "grey area" drawings laying around that you don't want , you can send 'em all to me !

Look's great to me Tom! I think this is one of my favorites from you so far. Just a nice solid appealing drawing... Nice work sir!
What an AWESOME Blog !
Very inspiring work. I just can't get enought of it.
Ah,....traditional materials have such a warm feel to them. Hard to replicate digitaly.
Thanks everyone! Especailly Miah, that's very high praise. Your favorite? I almost didn't post it. Judging by the amount of comments, I guess I need to post more "girl" drawings, huh? What's with you people?!?
I just love the Little Mermaid! Cool post. ; )

Wow yeah - I've been so dilluted with digital work that I just assumed you found some way of doing this in the computer. Very nice indeed!
